As Congress returns from recess with a narrow window before the 2026 midterm elections, candidates across the country must make a choice: listen to voters on energy affordability or ignore the defining issue of this election cycle.
In battleground states like Georgia, Maine, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia—states that will have an impact on control of Congress—voters are particularly concerned that America isn't producing enough energy to meet rising demand, yet they see a clear solution. An overwhelming majority of voters support an all-of-the-above energy strategy that includes natural gas to reliably meet demand and lower costs, while still advancing clean energy goals.
The most immediate action members of Congress can take to satisfy voters’ concerns is passing permitting reform, which will unlock the infrastructure we need to alleviate energy prices and meet the energy demand of the future. Candidates who align with those voter priorities will find themselves on the right side of public opinion. Those who don't will face real electoral consequences come November.
