May 18, 2023 - Granholm endorsed the pipeline in a recent letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission — the federal agency that regulates the nation’s sprawling pipelines — arguing the controversial project is needed for U.S. energy security, but is also crucial to transitioning to a zero-emissions power system. One of pipeline’s big champions is Senate Energy Chair Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), who provided the crucial vote for President Joe Biden’s climate bill last year.
